Review of Secret Geography :
An Exhibition of Works by Madeline Clare, Oct 2019. Madeline, originally from England, is a yoga teacher and visual artist, embracing voice and movement in her art practice. Shortly before becoming a member of SHAC she spent 3 months as an Artist in Residence in Iceland. Through the delicate discourse within her art Madeline uses a number of media: watercolour, oil on tissue paper, print, drawing, stitch and crochet. The paintings and drawings mostly involve the Icelandic landscape but there are some nude studies, including a series of Zen-like renditions in graphite on authentic gesso-ed board. Madeline says that her work tries to evoke landscape motion and inner spiritual movement toward inner and outer connection. The mythologies and constructs of humankind’s understanding of the outside world come into her studies, her journeying and her playing. She has a well thought out philosophy and a voice that should be heard. By Allan Tinley (Artist/Philosopher)
