SHAC's Halloween Dia De Los Muertos 2019
SHAC put on another amazing Halloween last night, in honour of the Mexican Los Diaos des Muertos (Day of the Dead). Cyclonic weather conditions did not dampen the enthusiasm even though our outdoor plans had to quickly be changed. Several hundred people passed through CoLab1&2 paying respects, playing games, eating fruit (no sugar this year), performing shadow puppetry, viewing the art, having their faces painted and getting their picture taken in front of the altar. Thanks to Lynda, Rachel and Cerrie for your tireless work making this free community event happen.
Preparations underway ...
Join us at SHAC for our annual Halloween celebration, this years theme is Day of the Dead, so come after trick or treating in WGV, from 6pm for storytelling, shadow puppetry, photo booth and specially curated projections, plus lots more! And join us for making and creating at workshops 4-5.30pm 17th & 24th Oct in CoLab 1

SHAC's Halloween Celebrations 2018
SHAC hosts a family Halloween celebration every year Oct 31st in the beautiful landscaped, natural surrounds of the White Gum Valley Eco village site. A free community event for all, SHAC resident artists and friends follow the worlds cultural traditions of celebrating All Hallows Eve. The source of our celebration is from Halloween traditions originating from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain; Today's Halloween customs are thought to have been influenced by folk customs and beliefs from the Celtic-speaking countries, some of which are believed to have pagan roots.
SHAC's family Halloween event has grown to over 200 people from the White Gum Valley community engaging last year! After trick or treating, our fancy dress costumed community joins together to celebrate 'Summers End' or 'Hallows Evening'
Traditional Halloween activities include - apple bobbing, storytelling, bonfire, fire show, shadow puppets, jack o' lantern pumpkin carving, fairyfloss, popcorn and much more!
In the lead up to Halloween, during October, we hold Weird Wednesday workshops in CoLab 1 - our workshop space, for all the family to make costumes, hats, shadow puppets, lanterns
This year, 2019, SHAC's Halloween theme will be the Latin American Día de Muertos - "Day of the Dead"., constructing altars with flowers and candles, with a fiesta feel and night market.
