Clare Detchon was born in Perth, Western Australia and is a practicing visual artist, art facilitator and teacher. Detchon works predominantly in the medium of painting and drawing, creating her own paints from natural materials like ochre, ground rock, plant dyes and charcoal. The materials inform her work and reflect the theme of the environment that runs through her paintings.
She completed a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) at Edith Cowan University in 2002 where she was shortlisted for the McInerney Ford Winter Prize. Her solo exhibition Ground Down was at Territory Craft in Darwin, Northern Territory in 2007 where she was Artist in Residence and was featured on Stateline ABC. Detchon has exhibited in various group shows in Western Australia, New South Wales and the Northern Territory and has been involved as a community artist in many projects throughout her career. |
